One of the shots I love to capture at weddings is a long night exposure of the wedding reception location. My clients seem to love these as well. It's a really unique way to shoot the venue and give the bride and groom a memory of where they spent their special day. This normally takes place after sunset so you need to check the sunrise/sunset times in advance that way you can prepare. About a half hour after sunset works well, that way you get that nice twilight sky and if it's clear a few sparkles from the stars. They key is do a long enough exposure that you really bring out the amazing blue color of the night sky so you'll need your trusty tripod. Usually the bride and groom are busy dancing and partying with family and friends during this time but if they need a break, pull them away and include them in the shot. Here are a few samples. The first was at Searles Castle in Windham, New Hampshire. It's a beautiful setting and the architecture against the night sky adds a medieval touch. The second image was shot at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, Massachusetts. Enjoy!
